Our books and music can support mental health, stress relief, and help put the mind and spirit in a better place after they have gone through the stresses of the day. What does that mean? It means our books and music can help people feel better in mind and spirit, and taking care of both is critical to maintaining their resilience in facing day-to-day life demands.

About the Bitney Adventures Author

Dr. Isabella Jeso, Ph.D., MBA, was born Isabella Pupurai Matsikidze in Bikita, Zimbabwe. Her rural village provided her first-hand knowledge of the natural world that sometimes shows up in her writing. She grew up in a close-knit Catholic extended family, having many first and second cousins. For her parents, she is one of 10 children. Being raised in this community of relatives instilled in her the value of taking care of family as a very important expectation. Second to this value was attending church; with getting a formal education, a third important value passed on to her. She is appreciative of the discipline of mind and of spirit by which these values have continued to enrich her life, far away from her native Bikita.

Following high school and classroom teacher training that earned her Primary School Teacher Certification, at an American-run Church of Christ boarding school in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, Isabella moved to the United States to pursue further studies. A scholarship student throughout her four years of undergraduate studies, she transferred from Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri to Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. This transition was followed by her graduate studies at the University of Vermont, in Burlington, and at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She later returned to school and earned an MBA degree from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Through all these exciting experiences, Isabella had the support of great family, friends, and professors; support and well-wishes for which she remains sincerely grateful.

Thus, beginning with her undergraduate and graduate education, Dr. Jeso has had the fortune of teaching and residing in various U.S. States, in different regions of the country. Along with her education, she cherishes the varieties of Christian worship and teaching that she has experienced everywhere; building upon her Christian childhood and young adulthood in her native Zimbabwe. She hopes that the wisdom gained, the insights learned from her diverse experiences has been passed on, as life-long Christian values, to her young adult son, Chikomborero.

About the Bitney Adventures Books

Dr. Isabella Jeso has written high-quality children’s literature that she describes as a new children’s literature for a new generation of Christian children. The Bitney Adventures Christian children’s stories are timeless and they are not situated in one place. As Christianity itself that, from its inception, has had an international component to it, these stories involve happenings that imaginatively take place in different regions of the earth.

So why is this new literature? It is new in the sense that few children’s literature that the author has encountered as a parent, and in her own practice as an educator, have targeted building the young Christian mind’s imaginative powers; as an aspect of developing mental resilience, of building mental stamina, giving the individual mind the capacity to remain situated in its own faith values, such as servant leadership, through the challenging years of growing up past the age when young adults leave home, whether for college, for marriage, or for their professions.

Dr. Jeso believes that building this mental stamina is best when it starts during the childhood years, in part, strengthening the mind by exposing it to imaginative writing that involves the vastness of space – here on earth and in the universe – putting thus the human figure in perspective, relative to all other humans and to other creations that God has made, for His own purposes.

Bitney Adventures is a new children’s book series. Book One: Bitney Goes to War, relaunched in July 2020; and Book Two: Bitney on the Island of the Mists, launched in 2021. Both books are now available for purchase from Bitney Adventures. The author is currently working on the manuscript for Book Three of the series, The All-Clear Siren from the Sea. Many more volumes of this series are planned.

The intention of the series is to support children’s faith values that their families, schools, and churches are helping them to develop as individuals. For example, Bitney, the series’ main character, and the Master’s eternally-living flying warhorse, goes to many places helping others. In this is seen the faith value of servant leadership; as well as obedience and loyalty to the Master who sends his warhorse into many challenging situations. The stories support these values in a manner that makes reading memorable and fun for the whole family. These stories were initially written for Dr. Jeso’s own son when he was a child. She delights in the opportunity to share them with other Christian families, worldwide.

About the Holy Spirit Music Musician

Chikomborero (Chiko) Jeso, while still an undergraduate student, started producing music under the name Affectueux, Holy Spirit Music. The name Affectueux was selected due to its conveyance of the caring, loving, compassionate nature of God. However, because of the difficulty in pronunciation that the word can cause, Chiko changed his music production name to Holy Spirit Music.

Chiko was born to Zimbabwean parents in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was raised by his mother, living in different U.S. States where she moved this family of two, with her jobs as a college teacher, including in the Greater Dallas, Texas area and in the Greater Burlington, Vermont areas. Chiko is well-travelled nationally and internationally. He feels that his music is fed, in part, by his listening to the Word of God and by his encounters with multiple ways in which varieties of people live life.

Chiko creates music because the Lord Holy Spirit works through him and when it is time for a song to come out, it comes out. This music artist does not make a song because a specific event happened to him; he makes music because it is time to make music.

The experience of being raised by a Christian mother and of being a practicing Christian himself helped Chiko to understand that God works through His people. The same understanding of how God works much of the time, continues to help the artist appreciate how great God is, how much love He offers, and why He is the greatest role model in existence.

About Holy Spirit Music

Chikomborero (Chiko) Jeso believes that the Lord God works through His people, and when the Lord Holy Spirit says it is time to accomplish something through someone who is willing to accept Him, that is when it is accomplished. Chiko’s accomplished instrumental Christian music, produced under the name Holy Spirit Music, is created from this belief.

Further, Chiko’s artistic practice is founded on the insight that just as the body needs nutritious food to help it maintain good health, so the mind and the spirit need to be fed in order to stay strong and continue to develop.

The high-quality sound of Chiko’s Holy Spirit Music is intended to encourage the Christian listener’s mind get to where it can calm itself, feel, and think at deeper levels of mental concentration on what aligns with its faith values.

The belief is also that there are many things that feed the mind and the spirit well, strengthening them; and the most important of these would be the Word of the Lord God. Quality music is another one of those things that feed the mind and the spirit. This is the hope of the artist, that listeners will be encouraged to exercise their minds at deeper and higher levels that assist with the strengthening of their spirits and of their minds as they continue their faith-journeys.
